Poynton High School is committed to delivering a high quality programme of Teacher Training to potential teachers. We work with a variety of Higher Education Institutions and schools to offer trainee teacher placements through PGCE and School Direct courses.
Applications for PGCE placements are made through UCAS and we work closely with Manchester University and Chester University to offer placements across the curriculum.
We offer high quality support in school and a full range of experiences to mentor trainee teachers through their training phases. Trainee teachers will have assigned mentors to help them through the programme and have full access to the school’s CPD Programme.
As a leading partner of ‘Teach Cheshire’, from September 2017 we will be offering School Direct Placements in a wide variety of subjects. Working with Fallibroome Academy and All Hallows Catholic College from Macclesfield we are able to offer a bespoke package for trainees in the East Cheshire area.
Teach Cheshire is an experienced School Direct Alliance led by schools in the Macclesfield and Poynton area, with partner schools across the wider area. You will spend time in two different partnership schools, normally starting in one in the Autumn term, going to a contrasting placement in the Spring term and then returning to the first school in the Summer term. All of the schools in the Alliance have comprehensive intakes and you will get experience of working with young people of all abilities. At least one of your placements will give you access to the 11-18 age range.
We partner with the University of Chester and University of Manchester to offer a programme leading to QTS and PGCE with 60 Masters credits. We work closely with each university to share the delivery of the programme so that you have the opportunity to apply learning from university sessions to the practical context of the classroom, supported and guided by experienced and enthusiastic mentors.
We also partner with TES Institute to offer a programme leading to QTS with PGCE. TES Institute offers a blend of the best of online and in-person learning. You will work closely with a mentor in school and this will be supplemented by high quality online learning sessions, written by practising teachers and academics from the world of education, focusing on the theory and practice of teaching and learning. The online sessions will be the equivalent of one day a week of your programme. You will be supported by your Pathway Tutor to develop your subject specific expertise.
Applications to Teach Cheshire are through UCAS.
