Entry Requirements & Admissions Criteria

The following criteria will apply with respect to the admission of all students to the Sixth Form.

Entry to the Sixth Form requires students to have gained good qualifications in a range of subjects. A minimum of five GCSEs, or equivalent, at grades 9-4 are required for entry and some individual subjects have their own requirement which may be higher than a grade 4. Where students have followed a GCSE equivalent course (such as a BTEC), passes at grades 9-4 in four additional full course GCSE subjects are required. This ensures that all our students have a successful background in a range of academic subjects. In addition, as we have a maximum number of places we can offer to external candidates of 50, the following over subscription policy as laid down by the Local Authority will be applied. Consideration will be given to applications falling into the following criteria, listed in descending order of priority.

  1. Looked after students
  2. Students resident within the designated catchment zone of the school
  3. Students living nearest the school (distance)

The school expects that all students will adhere to the Sixth Form guidelines with particular reference to Attendance, Behaviour, Study and Dress Codes.   All students seeking admission to the Sixth Form will have a personal consultation with a member of the Sixth Form Team to determine whether the school can meet the needs of the student. The meeting will ascertain whether or not the school offers the courses that will best match the aptitudes of the potential student. A final decision on admission to the Sixth Form cannot take place until the student's GCSE results are known.

Any enquiries about entry to the Sixth Form  should be directed to Mrs Bibby, Sixth Form Support Officer. Please telephone 01625 871811 ext 283 or email sacb@phs.cheshire.sch.uk
