Introducing our PTA

Poynton High School and Performing Arts College is a large and very successful comprehensive school. The PTA works to support the school through fundraising to provide the ‘extras’ which make the children’s learning experiences so much more fulfilling and exciting.

The PTA exists to provide closer links between home and school, and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school. All parents/guardians and members of the school community can get involved if they want to, even if they only have a small amount of time available.

The PTA has a Committee of about 10 members currently who organise fund raising events. The Committee meet on a regular basis usually once per half term and aim to organise about five or six events each year. As in most schools, the majority of our funds are raised through the events that we run.

What do we do?

The PTA is dedicated to raising money to improve equipment and resources to enhance our children’s education and the facilities in school in general.

Our fund raising activities are fun and provide a chance to meet other parents. In the last couple of years they have included theatre trips, photograph offers, Bag2School collection, annual plant sale, Easter raffle, School Lottery (see 'support our school' link below), providing hospitality at school concerts and events, helping the wider community whilst raising more funds for school by helping clear up after the Poynton Bonfire and by joining Santa on his sleigh as he visits the children in Poynton.

Elaine Roe manages the Poynton theatre trips and short holiday breaks, they are extremely competitive and include coach travel. Further details on forthcoming shows and trips can be found at www.poyntontheatretrips.org

How can you help?

  • Even if you are not able to attend committee meetings there are still lots of ways to help:
  • You could help to serve refreshments at PTA events, such as concerts or Drama productions.
  • You could help support the community and the Round Table whilst raising funds for school helping with the Bonfire clear up or following Santa on his sleigh around Poynton.
  • Share fundraising ideas
  • You could buy your plants in our Plant Sale in May and make sure that your children benefit rather than a garden centre!
  • You could sell raffle tickets

For the PTA to thrive and develop it needs involvement and support particularly from new parents. Mr A Bennett is the current Chair.  If you are interested in joining the Committee or putting your name down on the 'helpers' list for events or just to forward your ideas, please contact Mr Bennett via info@phs.cheshire.sch.uk for further details.

How have the PTA spent funds raised?

In the past couple of years, we have provided funds to school towards the purchase of an additional school minibus, a camera to record events and for media purposes, six wooden picnic benches for the outdoor student area, furnishings for a soft seating area in the Library, game making software for computing programming club for 30 machines and lighting improvements for stage lighting in the school hall. We have recently provided devices to support our school community in delivering the curriculum remotely.

PTA Meetings

Throughout the school year we will meet remotely via Zoom, meeting dates will be promoted via the bulletins sent home by our year teams.
