  • Poynton’s wellbeing card for young people

    Published 06/06/22

It has been a difficult time for everyone over the last couple of years, no less so than for our young people. Working together, the Middlewood Partnership, through members of its Poynton-based Patient Participation Forum groups, Poynton High School and Poynton Town Council have been developing resources to help young people in our area as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.  Members of Poynton High School’s Student Leadership Team have identified areas of concern and the support services and organisations which can help young people. Students suggested that a ‘business-style’ card with information would be very useful.  Funding has been secured from Waitrose and Timpson Foundation to print ‘Wellbeing cards’ with Poynton Town Council designing the cards.  Every student at Poynton High School has been given a card to keep, and some will be available at Waitrose and the Timpson shop in Cheadle.

Middlewood Partnership have also consulted with the students to develop easily-navigated, specific webpages on their website aimed at meeting the needs of young people. The pages have lots of useful information about self-help including alcohol and drug misuse, mental health, smoking, relationships and lots more.

Mr Dean, Headteacher, said ‘This is a really positive example of what can be achieved through partnership between our school and the wider community.  I am sure it will be of real benefit to young people in Poynton’.

  • Poynton High School Stockport Foodbank collection

    Published 25/03/22

Students at Poynton High School have sprung into action to support the work of a local food bank in Stockport.

Year 10 students have been learning about the work of local food banks as part of their GCSE Religious Studies course and were asked to bring in donations of food items.   There was an excellent response from so many of the students, with items such as tinned foods, packets of rice and cereals being donated.    Students were clearly moved when they learnt about the desperate plight of so many people in the local area and did not need asking twice to help.

Janet from Stockport Foodbank met staff and students and was overwhelmed with the items collected.    She said ‘we are delighted to receive such a marvellous donation of food and other items from the students at Poynton High School.   To have the ongoing support of the school during these difficult times is immensely important to us and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who donated to the Stockport Foodbank collection.   If anyone would like further details as to how they can help the Foodbank, please contact us on 07483 115249.'

Mr Dean, Head Teacher said ‘I am really proud to see our students supporting such a worthy cause.  We are pleased to be able to continue this link with the Foodbank and to bring students’ study of RS alive in such a positive way.’
