Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope that this update letter finds you all well and that, if you managed to get one, you had a lovely half term break.  The run up to Christmas here at the High School is full of activity.  The half term ahead will include parent’s evenings for years 11 and 13 (Thursday 16th November and Thursday 2nd November respectively), progress grade reports coming home, Year 11 mock examinations in December, a HUGE amount of extra-curricular opportunities and all leading up to the whole school production of Fiddler on the Roof in the week beginning 4th December.  
In this letter I wanted to cover a few topics that may be of interest to you.  I hope you are finding the increased number of “bulletin letters” useful, not only from myself but also from the whole team; year team bulletin letters will be coming out next week.
Parent and Carer Survey 2017 We are constantly trying to improve the education that we offer our students and are now at a stage in the school year where we would like you to tell us how well you think we are doing and how we can improve the things that are important to you.  To that end, we would be very grateful if you could spare 10 minutes to complete a questionnaire, using the following case sensitive password: poyn2017ab7x by going to 
By completing the questionnaire you will be telling us how you think we should be spending our time and resources to make our school the best that it can be for your child. The results of this survey will be triangulated with similar survey with staff and students and will give us a very powerful analysis of opinion over what each group feels we should be concentrating on as a school.  Each completed questionnaire is vital in finding out what parents think. Your answers will be treated in the strictest confidence and really will make a difference to how we run the school and plan for the future. 
Transport Consultation Cheshire East Local Authority is consulting about changes to its Education Travel Policies.  If you are currently in receipt of school transport, it is important that you are aware of the proposed changes and have an opportunity to have your say.  You can access the consultation online at or for a paper copy contact 0300 123 5012. The consultation runs until the 6th December 2017.  Please have your say as for those of you who have children who use the school transport system, the results of the consultation could have significant impact.  
Doddle Parent We have launched ‘Doddle Parent’ to enable you to see what home learning has been set for your child.  This will help to keep you better informed about your child’s work and will enable you to support their learning at home.  Access codes were sent to parents of students in Years 7, 8 and 9 before half term and will be sent to parents of students in Years 10 and 11 over this next week.  Feedback so far from parents has been very positive with regard to it helping you helping them.  If you want to find out more, further information is available at -
Bike Safety Lastly from me this time, may I please encourage you to ensure that, if your son or daughter is travelling to school on their bike, they are wearing a helmet and that their bikes have lights.  As someone who cycles over 500km a month, I have paid personal witness to some horrendous road traffic accidents and tragedies involving cyclists over the years.  A cycle helmet and bike lights could quite literally save their life.  We have an ever increasing number of students travelling to school on their bikes, which is very much to be encouraged, but a small number of them are putting themselves at serious risk by not wearing a helmet and not having lights (especially a red rear light).

Year Bulletins will be coming out next week and in my next letter to you the following week I hope to cover more information regarding the new GCSEs, target grades, the new 1 – 9 grading for GCSE examinations and what we are doing as a school to support our young people through these very challenging assessments.
