Year 12 A level Bulletin
We are nearly a full term into the A level Physical Education course. The students have covered a lot new topics within each area. Some of the theory work can start to become confusing the more we cover so students should be consistently reading their notes to familiarise themselves with the content. If you have any further questions or concerns please contact us:
Theory lessons – TOPICS COVERED THIS HALF TERM:
MAH: Applied Anatomy & Physiology (Paper 1)
- Cardiovascular System
- Respiratory System
- Energy Systems (starting)
AKE: Skill Acquisition (Paper 2)
- Principles and theories of learning skills
- Stages of learning
- Memory models
Students will be issued with a progress test at the end of each half term during their timetabled lessons and will be informed closer to the time of the date for completion.
Tests will cover all of the information covered so far within the relevant lessons. Tests will increase in the amount of marks available as with the amount of content covered. We will build up the length of test and types of questions to fully replicate the final examinations as we progress. You should have received their recent test results via email also.
Folders have been checked at the start of this half term and are mostly well organized and complete. Feedback has been given to those students that need to finish or complete missing work to ensure their notes are up to date.
Students are currently filling in their competition log for the sport they will be assessed in or will complete their talk in. Videoing can be completed at any time during the course with students creating a portfolio of evidence if they wish rather than relying on one piece of evidence. This will help if a student sustains an injury close to moderation or evidence deadlines. Students are advised to be practising and competing in their sports as much as possible throughout the course. Students have received a breakdown of what is required in their videos for their sport from their teacher(s).
Students will be working on the EAPI verbal response booklet during the last week of term so they need to ensure that they have been filling it in during their personal study periods.
Students have been informed that their home learning will be set on a week by week basis via Doddle. The tasks set will be relevant to the topics and encourage further learning around the area taught in the lesson. If there are not specific tasks that students have been encouraged to read around, then they should observe sporting news/stories during the week to help support the examples needed for their examinations. Alongside this they should be regularly reading their notes from lessons and researching more into the topic areas covered.
Students are allocated personal study during their free periods. For three hours per fortnight students should focus on their Physical Education studies. Students will be given an exercise book to work through relating to their verbal response assessment that accompanies their practical score. These will be checked each half term to ensure that they are being used alongside some classroom interaction to discuss any issues. Whilst some students are working well with them others need to ensure that they use their study periods effectively to ensure they are well prepared for this assessment.
We hope you find the information useful and thank you for in advance for your support. It is a subject we are passionate about and we hope our students feel the same way throughout their studies.
We hope you have a restful and joyful Christmas and New Year.
