Year 8 Weekly Bulletin

1st June 2020

Date: Monday 1st June 2020

Dear Parents, Carers and Young People,

I hope this bulletin finds you and your families safe and well. I also hope you have had a lovely half term, managing to enjoy the sunshine and have a break from schooling from home. I have had a very restful half term; we bought a swing ball for the garden which has been very well used and I made the below Lego set that I have been wanting to do since Christmas!

Google Classroom

Google classroom is available for all students from today. You will have received an email from Mr Dean with the login details and some information on how to use the system. Whilst we will continue to use Doddle to set the work for students for the rest of this half term, Google Classroom will be used to set assessed tasks that will be fed back on by teachers and allow students the opportunity to interact with their teachers. It would be really useful to log in and familiarise yourself with the way it looks. It would also be useful for students to go into their different ‘classrooms’ and have a look to see what has been put in so far. You can now start to get in touch with your teachers directly; just be to say hello or it could be to ask a question about the work. We look forward to being able to converse with students about the work they are doing and provide the help and support they need to get the most out of the learning they are doing at home. Over the next couple of weeks, teachers will be doing further training on how to most effectively use Google Classroom and as everyone gets a good understanding of how to use it we hope that everyone will find it a really useful platform to help support learning and contact with school.

Promoting Positive Mental Health

As you will remember from my bulletin before half term, 18th May – 24th May was Mental Health Awareness week. We want to continue to promote positive mental health so this week’s twitter challenges will be on this theme. Miss Swaffer and I have also worked together to create a blog with 5 Top Tips for looking after your mental health, which can be found on our year group page on Google Classrooms.

As a school, our focus is to provide the best educational experience possible at this time. If you have any concerns regarding the ability of your child to access work that is set, or anything that may be a barrier to them completing work, please get in touch with the year teams so that we can support your child at this time. Finally, please remember that although we are not physically in school, we are still a community and we will do everything we can to support you and your learning during this time. If ever you need anything, send me a tweet or drop me an email. Have a lovely week.

Stay safe, keep learning and look after yourselves and your families,

Miss E Keaveney
