Introducing our PTA

Poynton High School and Performing Arts College is a large and very successful comprehensive school. However like many other schools it has to work within a strict budget which often means that little money is left over to provide the ‘extras’ which make the children’s learning experiences so much more fulfilling and exciting.

What do we do?

The PTA is dedicated to raising money to improve equipment and resources to enhance our children’s education and the facilities in school in general.
Our fund raising activities are fun and provide a chance to meet other parents. Recently they have included Theatre Trips, a Photograph offer, a Bag 2 School collection, a Plant Sale, a Prom Event, an Easter Fair and the 200 Club.

Here is a link to theatre trips and mini breaks  coming up in 2015/16
The PTA also exists to provide closer links between home and school, and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school. All parents/guardians and members of the school community can get involved if they want to, even if they only have a small amount of time available.
The PTA has a Committee of about 10 members who organise fund raising events. The Committee meet on a regular basis usually once per half term and aim to organise about five or six events each year. As in most schools, the majority of our funds are raised through the events that we run.

How can you help?

The PTA recognises that parents with secondary age children are all very busy and although they are willing to support fund raising efforts, they lack the time to join the committee or to take part in all the social events. However there are still lots of ways to help:
You could help to serve refreshments at PTA events or other school events such as concerts or Drama productions.

  • You could sell raffle tickets
  • You could buy your plants in our Plant Sale in May and make sure that your children benefit rather than a garden centre!
  • You could join our 200 Club and have three prize winning opportunities every year (See attached form).

For the PTA to thrive and develop it needs involvement and support particularly from new parents. Julia Wadley is the current Chair. Please contact Julia via Student Enquiries for further information.
