PHS Celebrates

British Council International School Award success for Poynton High School.

Poynton High School has been awarded foundation level of the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.

The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools who do exceptional work in international education. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need for life and work in today’s world.

Poynton’s international work includes a long-standing link with 6 European partner schools through the EU’s Erasmus+ project, where staff participated in exchange visits to enhance their teaching and students travelled to Finland and Spain to experience life in another school.

In addition, the school has two thriving exchanges to Germany and Spain. The German exchange will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year.

On hearing the news that Poynton had achieved foundation level of the award, Headteacher David Waugh said: “We are so very pleased to have received this award.  It is recognition of the great work of our staff in bringing the outside world into our classrooms.  The range of international experiences open to our students is amazing and we are delighted that this has been formally recognised in this way.”

Stephen Hull, Senior Project Manager at the British Council, said: Poynton’s international work has earned the school well-deserved recognition in the form of the British Council International School Award.
